About The Candidate

John Gaddis was first appointed to Morgantown City Council to represent the 2nd Ward (serves city-wide), June 3, 2008, and was officially sworn in June 17, 2008. Re-elected April 28, 2009 for a two-year term. As your representative John:
  • attends neighborhood association meetings
  • takes issues back to constituents and listens to their wishes/concerns and takes this into consideration to make the best decision for all
  • is working to increase technology efficiency for the City of Morgantown by establishing and chairing the City of  Morgantown Technology Advisory Committee
  • serves on the Sister Cities Commission
  • serves on the Parking Authority
  • active member of the Morgantown Neighborhood Coordinating Council
  • represented the City of Morgantown in Guanajuato, Mexico, during the Guanajuato's 1st Sister Cities Festival 

Prior to joining the Morgantown City Council, John was (and is) active in the Greenmont Neighborhood Association having served as President in 1997, the group was instrumental in trying to save the Second Ward Annex School, which was later accepted as a historical landmark. John developed the Greenmont Neighborhood web portal that allows neighbors to share photos, information about events, concerns, as well as have open discussion on topics of interest.   After John's appointment to City Council he made it a point to join the South Park Association of Neighbors (SPAN) and is an active member. Working to bring neighbors and neighborhoods closer is natural for John.  "No surprises shares information early and often." 

John is an active volunteer in and around the Morgantown community. Serves on the Board of Directors for the Opportunity Industrial Center (OIC) of Fairmont, WV (Vice Chair); Board of Directors of the Members of Diversity, Inc (assistant Secretary/Treasurer/Chair of the Marketing Outreach committee/member: education and event committees; former chair of the Job Service Employer Committee (served as Chair  - represented Marion and Taylor counties); Alabama A&M University Alumni Association (member - Washington DC Metropolitan chapter); technology advisor for the AAAHA Board and Summer Academy; and St. Paul AME Church, Board of Trustees.     

John holds a BS, Computer Science, 1989 Alabama A&M University; 2004 Graduate of Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation FastTrac® program (business development); holds a Certificate in Federal Acquisition Management, 2007 Pierpont C&T College, Fairmont State University; as well as other career enrichment course work and seminars in the area of program/project management, grant writing, web development, and team building.

John is a native of Lincoln (Talladega), AL. He is the oldest of three boys. Relocated the Greater Morgantown area in 1993 from the Washington DC area to work in the developing High Technology industry. John is married to Maria Watson Gaddis (a native of Beckley, WV), whom he met in Morgantown. His career spans from software development to managing federally funded projects and programs for the  Department of Defense (Army, Air Force, Navy),  and NASA.   

In 2007, John took the opportunity to start his own consulting business full time - The GADDIS Group (GADDIS Consulting Group LLC) was establish in 2007, as a certified minority-owned business enterprise (certified as a participant in the U.S. Small Business Administration's 8(a) Business Development Program - June 29, 2010), SDB and HUBZone.
